School lunches

We are very lucky that all of our hot meals are prepared and cooked on site in our school kitchen.

 

We were delighted that our school kitchen was recently given a hygiene rating of 5 out of 5 when we were inspected by a food safety officer from the local authority. The food safety officer checks how well the school is meeting the law by looking at: how hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored as well as how we manage and record what we do to make sure food is safe.  At the end of the inspection, we are given one of the six ratings from 0-5. The top rating of ‘5’ means that we were found to have ‘very good’ hygiene standards.

 

We have achieved the Bronze Award Food for Life Catering Mark.

This means that:

• At least 75% of the food we offer is prepared on the premises.
• All the meat we serve is Red Tractor assured, or equivalent.
• The fruit and vegetables we serve are seasonal and locally grown, wherever possible.
• Our food is free from GM ingredients, trans fats and undesirable additives.

 

The following items are served in addition to the main meal:

Seasonal Vegetables

Locally sourced, seasonal vegetables accompany our main meals.  All vegetables are seasonal with the exception of sweetcorn, peas and baked beans.
 

Freshly Baked Bread

Freshly baked bread is available to accompany the main meal.  Our bread is made from a blend of locally sourced wholemeal and white flour.
 

Salad Bar

In addition to the main meal, most schools also have a salad bar where children can help themselves to fresh salad and raw vegetables.  We believe that this will help children achieve their target of 5 portions of fruit and vegetables every day.

 

Fresh Water

School is thirsty work, so we always ensure that fresh water is available at lunchtime.  Some of our dessert options include a glass of fresh, cool milk.

Menus are available in school and you can view the current menu once you have set up your online booking and payment account.  Please ensure you order lunch for your child by midnight on the Thursday prior to the following Monday.

If your child would only like a school dinner a few times a week this is also an option.
